We all have that one person that we can rely on. Thick and thin, no matter what you know they got your back. Or do they?
If we recall back to when Jesus was being hunted down by the High Priest and Pilates henchman; it was a best friend of Jesus that betrayed him We’ve all heard someone being called a “Judas”. Well this is where that saying came from. Jesus knew that one of his close followers would betray him and somehow he seemed OK with that. He knew that was what needed to happen in order for the prophecy to be fulfilled. Have we ever wondered what would have happened if Judas didn’t betray Jesus? We’ve learned from prior Bible studies in my blog that when God has a plan it happens and we can’t stop it. No matter how hard we try. I’m sure he was hurt nonetheless.
Most of us treasure of friendships on a level that we even consider some of our friends family. Our children call them aunt or uncle, and they stand with you just like a sister or brother. Then something happens…it could be anything but there’s that one thing that just brings it to your attention so bright that it’s blinding. The fact that they weren’t as close to you or as good of a friend as you thought. It hurts! A lot. Especially when the person doesn’t come to you to talk about why they may be upset and let you explain.
I’ve had to deal with this over my life and forgiveness has been very hard for me. I’ve prayed about forgiveness and asking God to give me the strength, knowledge and wisdom to be able to do that. It wasn’t until I realized that sometimes forgiveness doesn’t mean “forgetting”. It’s about releasing that energy to God, letting him take care of it and giving yourself the freedom and forgiveness to “let it go”. Sounds tough huh? It is very though, but I finally realized that I can’t waste energy on someone that doesn’t want to be there for me when I need them. I would rather just “let it go” and spend each day in joy with the people that make my heart smile.
If you have to try that hard to make someone love you, it makes me beg to ask why bother. Love and life isn’t rocket science. It’s about being a decent human being to another person, lifting them up when they are down and loving them more especially when they aren’t lovable.
Ephesians 4:31-32 – Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another as God in Christ forgave you.
Father, please give me the strength and patience that I need to forgive those that have wronged me. Lord, please give me the wisdom to rise above and continue to serve you. Thank you Lord for those that love me unconditionally, just like you love us. Amen
